The Agama name for this animal itself is taken from the Latin which means not to marry. There are several species of lizards belonging to this genus.
But this my article - as the title suggests - will focus on the rainbow agama lizard, the most famous and earliest identified agama lizard species by humans.

Rainbow Agama or Agama Agama is the name of a agama lizard species that got this name thanks to its rainbow colored scales.
Apart from the agama name rainbow, the same animal also has other nicknames such as the red-headed stone agama lizard, the ordinary agama lizard, to the rainbow agama lizard.
Among reptile lovers, this animal is considered a popular animal thanks to its beautiful colored scales and relatively easy care.
Only male rainbow agama lizards have colorful bodies. If the male has a body colored a combination of blue and red, then the female is pale brown.

The reason why males have such striking colors is thought to have to do with making it easier for males to attract female mates. Female, on the other hand, do not need flashy colors to facilitate camouflage for their enemies.
The other side of Rainbow Agama
Rainbow agama can only be found in Africa, to be precise in a country directly adjacent to the Sahara Desert. Like many species of reptiles, the rainbow religion has the habit of basking in the morning to raise its body temperature.
But when the ambient temperature is too high, the rainbow agama will go to the shade. The favorite habitat of this lizard is a dry area that is overgrown with small plants and insects for food.
Rainbow agama is an insectivorous animal, meaning that this animal uses insects as its main food. But apart from insects, these animals are known to eat small mammals, small reptiles, seeds, and fruit.
In order to find its prey, the agama of the rainbow relies on its sense of sight while hiding in a grove of plants. When it sees its prey, the rainbow agama will move quickly towards the prey and then catch it using its sticky tongue.
Each male rainbow agama has its own territory. Females will be allowed to enter and live in their territory, but males will be evicted by the territorial owner.

If the male intruder refuses to leave, the two will threaten each other before fighting each other. The male rainbow agama fight by whipping each other's tails.
When fighting, the colors of the male rainbow agama scales also look brighter so that their opponents feel intimidated.
The male rainbow agama can have several females as mating partners. Within the same group, younger male gangs who have never been married can also be found.

After mating with a male, the female will dig a hole using her paws, insert the egg into the hole, then bury it.
